What We Do!

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS

The guild offers classes to members and the public at various times during the year. Every effort is made to offer a variety of classes for all skill levels. Once a year we sponsor a retreat featuring well-known quilting personalities in a relaxing environment.

PROJECT WARMTH

Last year our guild gave more than 300 quilts to people in need in our community. We provide quilts to individuals as well as civic organizations to use as fund-raisers. some of the recipients include WAVI, Black Hills Children's Home, The Cornerstone Rescue Mission, fire quilts, hospital newborn and angel baby quilts.
Fire quilts: 85 x 92
Hospital newborn: 36 x 36, max 50 x 50
Children's home and foster care: 56 x 80 or 56 x 84.
Angel baby: 18 x 22, for bereaved parents of newborns.
WAVI (women's shelter): 68 x 87 or 78 x 87

HEART FELT QUILTS

A new project for our guild is "Heart Felt Quilts." These are quilts made by our guild and given to our fellow quilt sisters who might be in need of a hug from her friends. If you would like to participate we are looking for any kind of heart blocks in any color combination that are 9 1/2 inches unfinished. You can give them to Joanne Anderson at the workdays or meetings or you can mail them to 4029 W. Chicago St., Rapid City, SD 57701. If you know a member who needs a hug, please let us know.

"THINKING OF YOU" BLOCKS

At any given time we have members carrying extra burdens. Many have to put their social life on hold as they care for a loved one, deal with family problems, lose family members, etc. Some can make it to guild activities, but still have to deal with the situation. Please let them know that you care.

How to give them a boost and hug!

  1. Make a 4 1/2" (unfinished size) heart block
  2. Use a neutral background, anything from white to tan.
  3. Applique or piece a heart (more than one if you would like) onto the background fabric. Any type of heart is okay
  4. Place in a card along with your sentiment and sent it to her.
QUILTERS LIBRARY

Our guild maintains an extensive library of quilting books, tools and videos for member use. This is especially useful to new quilters looking for inspiration. The library is located in the Ben Franklin store in Rapid City.

QUILT SHOW

Members display their colorful works of art at our annual quilt show in June. Vendors are available to fill all of your quilting need and also we have free demonstrations of quilt techniques.

WORKDAYS

Every Tuesday members meet to work on their own projects and to encourage each other at the Faith Lutheran Church in Rapid City. Members come and go as they wish beginning at 9:30 am and ending around 1:00 pm. For those who prefer evenings, members meet at the Journey Museum every Tuesday from 5:30-9:00pm.

BUSINESS MEETINGS

Each month there is a business meeting at the Faith Lutheran Church. Meetings are normally the third Monday of the month. In January, March, May, July, September and November we meet at 1:00 pm. In February, April, June, August, October and December we meet at 7:00 pm.

SHOW AND TELL
